Friday night in Lower Village, Montecito. A couple had been out and came back to their 2014 CX-9 around 8:45pm. Dead fob. No response from the doors, no push-button start, nothing.
They didn't know about the emergency mechanical blade hidden inside the WAZX1T763SKE11A04 housing. Without it, they figured the car was stuck until they could get to a dealer on Monday.
I was about twelve minutes out with everything already in the van. MAZ24R emergency blades, CR2025 cells, OEM-spec fob shells, the whole Mazda tray. When I got there, the husband was holding the fob up to different spots on the windshield like he was trying to get a cell signal. You see that a lot.
Popped the fob open on their hood. The CR2025 was dead flat, reading under 2 volts. Swapped it, reseated the battery clip, and re-synced the fob to the keyless control module through a button-sequence relearn at the driver door. Push-button start fired on the first press. Walked all four doors, tested lock, unlock, hatch release, and panic. Everything came back clean.
They drove home that same night. The whole thing took less time than it would have taken the dealer just to schedule the appointment. When the van is stocked right, a call at 8:45pm on a Friday plays out the same as 9am on a Tuesday.
