Saturday afternoon in the East Area 2 part of Santa Paula, and this CX-9 was sitting in a parking lot near the community pool while a swim meet was going on. The owner had four kids cycling in and out of the car all morning, and somewhere in that chaos the only smart key fob stopped being recognized reliably. Push-button would work, then it wouldn't. I still ran the full job: checked the fob battery, seated a fresh CR2025, cleaned the contact points, walked all four doors checking handle wake-up, verified the push-button response from outside the vehicle, and ran every button on the fob at distance. Then three starts in a row.
He was watching from the pool fence, expecting me to wave him over and be done in two minutes. When I was still walking the parking lot pressing buttons five minutes later, he came over to see what I was doing. I told him the testing is the part that tells you whether the fix actually held.
The hardwired dash cam is still in the car. I recommended he get it re-routed to a switched power source so it powers down with the ignition. Whether he does that is up to him. The fob was working clean when I left.
He mentioned a dealer in the area had already quoted him a number that made him pull out his phone and start searching for someone else. Saved a good chunk going mobile.
