Saturday afternoon in the East Area 2 part of Santa Paula, and this CX-9 was sitting in a parking lot near the community pool while a swim meet was going on.

The owner had four kids cycling in and out of the car all morning, and somewhere in that chaos the only smart key fob stopped being recognized reliably. Push-button would work, then it wouldn't. Driver handle would wake up, then go cold. Classic intermittent, which is actually harder to chase than a full failure because the car keeps giving you hope.

I asked him what was plugged in. He pointed to a USB hub in the center console port and a dash cam that had been hardwired by someone at a shop. I had him unplug the USB hub first. Range improved immediately. That told me enough.

The hardwired dash cam is still in the car. I recommended he get it re-routed to a switched power source so it powers down with the ignition. Whether he does that is up to him. The fob was working clean when I left.
