Over in San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, a shop foreman at the alignment place down the road called me about a customer's 2017 CX-9 that was completely bricked in bay three.
Another locksmith had attempted a smart key program, and the tool lost connection during the security timer. That seven-to-ten minute countdown on MDARS is not something you can interrupt. When it broke mid-sequence, the keyless control module, part number TK78-67-5DZC on the BCM board, latched into a permanent fault state. The i-stop light was on, the push button did nothing, and the original key was erased. The other tech packed up and left.
I brought my Yanhua ACDP as backup in case I needed to pull the module for bench recovery. First thing I did was hook my jump pack directly to the battery posts to hold voltage steady. No drops, no flicker. Then I connected through OBD, cleared the stored DTCs out of the keyless module, and restarted a clean registration from scratch.
His replacement fob was the right one, WAZSKE13D01 with the HITAG Pro transponder inside. The module accepted it on the first clean pass. Tested push-button start, all four remote buttons, walk-away lock. Everything responded.
About an hour and fifteen minutes total. The foreman said the dealer had quoted the customer a tow plus a multi-day wait for the module to be reflashed. I saved that guy a good chunk and a lot of headaches.
