2020 Mazda CX-9 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman flagged me down near the bookstore in Downtown Santa Paula. She had a 2020 CX-9 and a very specific question before she would agree to anything: was the key I was going to cut her "as good as dealer."
Not "does it work." She wanted to know if it was as good.
I pulled the blank out and walked her through it. Same button count, same fob layout, same blade profile, same battery type. The circuit inside is what the immobilizer expects to see. The aftermarket shell on quality blanks fits tight and the buttons feel the same after a year of daily pocket use. Where aftermarket goes wrong is cheap sourcing, brittle plastic, contacts that oxidize fast. I told her I test every batch before it goes in the van. She asked how I knew. I told her I find out the hard way if I don't.
I decoded the lock, cut the blade, and enrolled the new fob through the OBD port. She watched the whole thing from the sidewalk. About thirty minutes start to finish, including me walking every button and both door handles to confirm everything was registering clean.
She used the new key to lock the car herself, walked around to confirm, then looked at me and said "yeah, okay." That was the whole review. I'll take it.
The dealer quote she had gotten beforehand was nearly double what she paid me. She mentioned it almost as an afterthought, like she had already moved on.
