Her bakery opens at 6am and the delivery run starts before most people set an alarm. She was behind the bakery in the Moorpark College Area, bread loaded, CX-9 sitting cold in the lot, and the fob had finally given out after weeks of getting flakier. Touch-unlock on the door handles stopped responding. The start button sat there doing nothing. The car had no idea she was standing next to it.

I was there by 5. Got the door open, plugged into the OBD port, and pulled the fob apart on the hood. The CR2025 was dead and the contacts inside the housing had a thin layer of corrosion on them, the kind that builds up slowly and finally tips things over. The vehicle's security system had stopped seeing the fob entirely.
Cleaned the contacts, put in a fresh CR2025, verified the housing seated right, then went through programming to make sure the vehicle recognized the key properly. After that I walked every function: door handles, lock, unlock, the start button, each of the four buttons on the fob. Everything confirmed before I closed up.
She was pulling out of that lot by 5:40am. Three restaurants got their deliveries on time. The dealer wasn't even open yet.
