Out near Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park in Moorpark, a woman with a bakery called me at 4:30 in the morning. Her 2008 Mazda CX-9 was parked behind the shop, loaded with bread for three restaurant deliveries that had to land before 6. The smart key had been losing range for weeks and finally quit waking the car entirely.

I got there by 5. Opened the door, plugged my IM608 into the OBD port under the dash. Her fob, the BGBX1T458SKE11A01, had a dead CR2025 and green corrosion creeping across the battery terminals inside the housing. The KOS module had dropped communication with it completely. I replaced the fob with a new NFY7-67-5RYB unit, registered it through the MDARS system including the timed security wait the CX-9 requires, and ran through every function: push-to-start, all four buttons, passive entry on both front doors, and liftgate unlock.
She pulled out of that lot at 5:40. Three restaurants got their bread on time because the parts were already in my van before the sun came up.
The dealer was still two hours from opening their service bay doors.
