1999 Nissan Frontier MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman who runs a home daycare out of her bungalow near Mission Canyon area called me about her 1999 Frontier. The key shell had cracked right where the plastic meets the blade, split clean through on one side. She was holding it together with electrical tape.
She had already gone to the Nissan dealer in town. They quoted her a full replacement key, cut and programmed, and told her there was no other option. What nobody mentioned is that the ID46 transponder chip inside her key was working fine. The crack was cosmetic. The electronics were solid.
I drove out that evening. Pulled the chip out of the cracked housing, transferred it into a new aftermarket shell that matches the NSN14 blade profile, and decoded her driver door with my DAT17 Lishi to cut a fresh blade on site. No need to touch the NATS system at all since the original chip was still good and already registered to her ECM.
Tested ignition three times cold, cycled the security light, confirmed clean starts. Then I cut her a spare transponder key with a new ID46 chip and programmed it through the OBD port using pin code pulled from her BCM.
She went from one cracked key held together with tape to two working keys in about 25 minutes. The whole thing cost her a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
