2012 Nissan Frontier
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2012 Nissan Frontier Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in the Sea Air neighborhood in Oxnard who had parked his 2012 Frontier on a tight cul-de-sac up a slope where the road narrows to barely one lane.

The tow company he called looked at the street on a map and said they could not get their flatbed in without blocking the whole block. The Nissan dealer told him to figure out how to transport the vehicle first and then call for an appointment. He had one key, it had stopped being recognized by the car, and he was working from home that day with nowhere to be.

I parked at the base of the hill and walked up with my bag and a cutting unit on a hand cart.

When I got to the Frontier I could see right away the remote head key had some wear on the blade and the fob housing had a crack along the seam near the battery cover. Not the kind of damage that looks dramatic, but enough that the battery contact was slightly off and the transponder connection inside the housing had probably been intermittent for a while. The car was reading the key as absent even though the key was sitting right in the ignition.

I built him a new unit, cut the blade to match his locks, programmed the transponder and the remote in one session, and tested every button standing on that hillside. Lock, unlock, and the third button, all confirmed. Then I turned the car over twice to make sure the engine came up clean with no security warning on the dash.

His car never moved. The dealer quote assumed it could.
