2002 Nissan Frontier MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman over in the Mountain Meadows neighborhood in Moorpark. She had a 2002 Nissan Frontier, the D22 generation, and needed a spare key. Her only working key had a cracked plastic head held together with electrical tape, and she was terrified it would finally snap and leave her stranded.
She had called the Nissan dealer already. They told her to bring the truck in, schedule an appointment, and plan on leaving it for part of the day. She is retired, lives alone, and did not love the idea of sitting in a dealer waiting room for hours over one key.

I showed up with my programmer and key blanks. Her Frontier uses the NATS system with a 4D60 transponder chip in the key head. The immobilizer module sits around the ignition cylinder and interrogates that chip every time you turn the key. No correct chip response, no fuel injection. Simple concept, just needs the right equipment to register a new one.
Cut the key by code using the Ilco X264 blank, ran the NATS registration through the OBD port with her original taped-up key present so it stayed active, and the new one fired the truck right up. She turned it off, tried again, turned it off, tried a third time. Then she just nodded.
Whole thing, maybe 25 minutes in her driveway.
