A young couple near Apricot Lane Farms in Moorpark had just picked up a used 2005 Frontier from an overflow lot. Clean truck, good price, one key. The lot told them to handle the spare on their own.
They figured a hardware store could knock it out. Every Nissan key since the early 2000s carries a transponder chip, though. A blank cut at the kiosk will turn the ignition cylinder just fine but the NATS module on the BCM will kill the injectors and you're sitting there cranking with a blinking security light.
They called the Nissan dealer. The quote for one spare remote head key, part number H0561-C993A, was steep enough that they started searching online. Found me, asked if the dealer price was real. I told them it was.
I met them at the lot before they drove it home. The FCC ID CWTWB1U751 told me the remote frequency and that we're dealing with a NATS5 ID46 chip. I matched the blank, decoded the NSN14 keyway by impression, and used my VVDI2 to clone the PCF7936 transponder data from their working key onto a fresh blank. The truck's immobilizer accepted it without a full pin code reset through the CONSULT-III port.
Cut, clone, test both keys on start and all three remote buttons. They drove home with two working keys for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
