2003 Nissan Frontier
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2003 Nissan Frontier Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over in Moorpark Home Acres had been babying his 2003 Frontier ignition for weeks. Every morning it was the same routine: wiggle the key, push it in at an angle, rock the steering wheel loose, repeat.

He finally got fed up and called the dealer. They quoted him a full ignition cylinder replacement, new key cut, the whole thing. He was ready to drop the truck off until a neighbor told him to call a locksmith first.

I drove out to his place in Moorpark Home Acres and watched him demonstrate the problem. The key would go in but hung up on the way to the start position. Classic worn wafer behavior.

I decoded the cylinder right there in his driveway. A few of the wafers had worn down enough to drag on the key cuts instead of riding cleanly. I swapped the damaged wafers, cut a fresh key matched to the repaired cylinder, and tested it through a full lock, unlock, and start cycle.

He stood there turning the key back and forth a few times just to feel how smooth it was. Said it felt better than it had in years.

He paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and he kept the cylinder that still had plenty of life left in it.
