Got a call from a guy over in the Peach Hill neighborhood in Moorpark. His 2001 Frontier had been sitting for a couple of weeks because the only key he had snapped right at the bow, the plastic head separated from the blade. He still had both pieces, but the metal was cracked flush with the head so there was no gluing it back.
He had already called a Nissan dealer. They told him to tow the truck in, order a key blank, and schedule a programming appointment. Two trips minimum, plus the tow. He said the whole thing felt like it was designed to waste his afternoon.
I showed up with an H0564-3S500 blank and my Lishi NSN14 pick and decoder on the seat. Read the wafers right off the passenger door cylinder, cut the blade on my mobile machine, and then connected my IM608 Pro to the OBD-II port under the dash. The NATS5 system on these D22-generation Frontiers uses the IMMU (Immobilizer Control Unit) mounted behind the cluster, and the IM608 talks directly to it to register the new ID46 chip.
Whole job took maybe 20 minutes. He turned the key, the security light went solid for a second and then shut off, and the VG33E fired right up. He just nodded and said "that's it?" while I was still packing up.
