2005 Subaru Forester Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A produce vendor at the farmers market lot near Nyeland Acres in Oxnard was sure her 2005 Forester had to go back to the dealer. A friend told her. The dealer's website told her. An old SubaruForester.org thread from 2007 told her. All of them were either wrong or outdated.

I used my VVDI Key Tool to generate a fresh 4D-62 chip matched to the immobilizer ECU. Cut the SUB-120 blank on the mobile machine, wrote the chip, plugged into the OBD-II port under the dash, and registered the new transponder through the Subaru security login. Whole process, maybe 20 minutes.
She stood there watching me turn the key and start the engine. Then she turned it herself. Lock, unlock, start. The immobilizer light on the dash stayed off, which is what you want.
Her car doesn't know if that key got programmed in a dealer service bay or a farmers market parking lot. It just checks the chip code and lets you drive.
