I was already on the 101 heading toward Lemonwood when she called back to say the car had actually started. That's the worst news on a transponder job because people immediately think they're fine and want to cancel.
I asked her one question: has it done this before? Long pause. Yeah, twice in the last month.
That's the pattern on these 2013 Foresters. Intermittent no-start, clears on its own, owner writes it off. Then one day it stops clearing and they're stranded. She asked if the dealer could have figured that out. Probably, eventually. But their earliest opening was the next morning, and her groceries weren't going to wait.
