A guy called me from the VA clinic parking lot off Vineyard Ave, right in the Oxnard Historic District. He was in a wheelchair, his wife was out of town, and his only key had snapped. The blade was still in his pocket but the plastic head with the chip was stuck in the door lock cylinder. He'd tried to muscle it out with his fingernails and made it worse.
I got there and spent a few minutes extracting the broken head from the cylinder with a broken key extractor. The cylinder was fine. The chip housing in the broken head was intact, which was good news.
I decoded the lock, cut two new keys from blank stock I carry on the van, and programmed the transponder through the OBD port. One key is the daily driver, one goes in his center console as the spare he never had. The whole job was done without him leaving his car. He didn't have to ask his wife to cut her trip short. Didn't have to wait for a flatbed or figure out how to get into a dealer service bay in a chair.
He mentioned afterward that the dealer had told him they'd need to order a part and schedule him a week out. I was there and done the same morning he called.
