Got a call from a veteran over near Lemon Grove Plaza in Oxnard. He was at the VA clinic lot, uses a wheelchair, and his wife who normally drives him was out of town. His only key's remote had quit working and the blade was chewed up enough that he was fighting the ignition every time.
I drove out that morning. His 2008 Forester runs the older Subaru fixed-code immobilizer with the 4D-62 chip and a separate NHVWB1U711 remote, so these are two distinct parts: a transponder key and a standalone keyfob. Not a smart key, not a prox system. Edge-cut NSN14 blade.
I decoded his door lock with my HO01 Lishi, cut a fresh NSN14 blank on the van, and cloned the 4D-62 transponder through OBD. Then I paired a replacement NHVWB1U711 remote so his lock and unlock buttons actually worked again. Made him a second copy while I was there so he'd have a spare in case this happened again.
He sat in his chair next to the van and watched the whole thing. Didn't have to leave the clinic. Didn't have to coordinate a ride to any dealer. Didn't have to wait three days for a parts order.
The dealer had quoted him a single key plus an appointment he couldn't easily get to. He got two keys, on site, for a good chunk less than that one dealer key.
