2009 Subaru Forester Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Downtown Moorpark called on a Tuesday morning. He runs a small business off High Street and his 2009 Forester was sitting in his lot not starting. He said it cranked, turned over strong, but just wouldn't fire. He'd already jumped it thinking battery. No change.
He'd had the car for years. One key. Never made a spare.
I pulled up and the first thing I did was look at the key itself. The plastic head had a hairline crack running across the base, and when I held it up to the light I could see the key head had been under some stress, probably a heavy keychain pulling on it for a long time. The chip was still inside but the housing was compromised enough that seating it fully in the ignition was inconsistent.
Cut him a new key blade to match the existing cuts, fit it with a proper transponder chip, programmed it to the vehicle on site. First turn, started clean.
He asked if he should keep the old cracked one as a backup. I told him I'd cut him a second while I was already there. He said yes. Smart call on his part. The whole job was done before his lunch break, parked right where it sat, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer would have wanted just to look at it.
