I got a text from a guy in Mar Vista, Oxnard. He was parked off a dirt pullout near a trail access point, the kind of spot where a flatbed would bottom out before it got close. He'd been mountain biking and somewhere between the trailhead and the car, his only key to the 2011 Forester was gone. Not in the pack, not in the lock, not under the mat. Gone.

He mentioned the dealer was his first instinct but they were a long drive away, closed on Sunday, and their all-keys-lost process on a Forester this age typically means scheduling out, sometimes waiting on a blank to arrive. He would have been stuck there until at minimum Monday.
