A guy in Downtown Oxnard texted me a GPS pin from a trailhead pullout off the 33. He had been mountain biking and his only Forester key fell off a carabiner clip somewhere on the ride. No spare. No dealer anywhere close. His 2011 Forester was sitting on gravel and it was not going anywhere without a key.
I loaded up everything for his year and drove out to the pin.
First thing was the immobilizer data. I connected my ACDP to the OBD port and pulled a backup from the 93C56 EEPROM on the immobilizer module. That gives me what I need to write a fresh 4D62 chip that the car will accept. Then I decoded the door lock with a DAT17 Lishi tool, got the cuts, and ran a new blade on my mobile cutter right there on the tailgate.
Built the whole key from nothing in that dirt lot. Chip written, blade cut, remote paired. He turned the ignition and the Forester fired on the first try.
He just stood there for a second, like he expected it to stall. It did not.
The closest dealer would have needed a tow from a spot no flatbed would enjoy reaching, plus days of wait time and a separate appointment. He rode home under his own power that afternoon for a fraction of what that route would have cost.
