Got a call from a woman staying at a rental in Oxnard, over in the Windsor North neighborhood. She had a 1998 Toyota Avalon XLS, one key, and that one key had finally given up. The plastic bow was cracked clean through and the 4C transponder chip inside had shifted just enough that the immobilizer would not read it. Key turned the lock cylinder fine. Engine cranked but would not fire. The THEFT light on the dash just sat there blinking, which is exactly what Toyota's first-gen system does when it cannot see the chip.

I showed up that evening with TOY43 blanks and 4C transponder chips already in the van. Cut the blade on my HPC 1200 using the old broken key as a reference since the cuts were still clean. Then I used my VVDI Key Tool to clone the 4C chip data from the original onto a fresh Texas Instruments glass transponder. The whole job, blade cut to engine start, was about twenty minutes on the curb.

She just sat in the driver's seat and turned it over a couple of times, like she was testing whether it would change its mind. It did not. One visit, done, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted her plus the tow she never had to book.
