A guy near Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard called me because his 2010 Avalon was stuck inside his gated community's guest parking and the tow company couldn't get past the gate without a resident walking them in. Problem was, his car wouldn't start, so he had no way to escort them. He was just stuck in a loop.

His HYQ14AAB was completely dead. Not weak, dead. The CR1632 had corroded just enough to stop the fob from broadcasting to the Smart Key ECU. Dashboard showed the amber push-button light, no green, and "Key not detected" on the multi-info display.
I opened the fob, cleaned the battery terminals on the board (271451-0140), dropped a fresh CR1632 in, and re-tested proximity. Doors responded to the handle touch sensor, start button went green. But then I ran the full check: all four buttons, both front door handles, trunk release, and walked the fob out to about eight feet to make sure the range was back where it should be. It was.
His car never had to move. No tow truck, no dealership waiting room, no dispatcher queue. I walked through a gate, fixed his Avalon on the spot, and walked out. The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes. A dealer visit for the same result would have burned half his day, assuming they could even get the car there.
