Over by the Oxnard Transit Center, a parent was sitting in the lot after a school conference when her 2014 Avalon would not respond to the fob. Doors would not unlock from the handle. Push-to-start just sat there. The dash kept cycling "Key Not Detected" like a broken record.
She had about forty-five minutes before she needed to pick up her younger kid across town. She called the dealer first. They told her end of the week, bring the car in, and plan on leaving it.

I got to the lot and started with the obvious. Popped open the HYQ14FBA and checked the CR1632. It was original, voltage was low, but that was only half the story. The battery contact tab on the board (281451-2020) had a slight bend from what looked like a past battery swap done with a screwdriver instead of a fingernail. New CR1632, contact straightened, and the fob lit up the dash immediately.
But I don't hand it back on faith. I walked every door handle for proximity unlock, tested proximity lock, ran the trunk release, cycled the push-to-start twice, and let the Toyota Security System (the A351E immobilizer module) re-handshake with the fob at range.
She was pulling out of the lot at 2:45. Made her pickup. No tow, no dealer wait, no rearranging the week. Just the right fix in the parking lot where the car already sat.
