Got a call from a woman in the College Estates area in Oxnard. Her 1999 Avalon had one key left and the plastic bow was cracked almost in half, held together by electrical tape. She said she'd been babying it for months, turning it slow, scared the transponder pellet would fall out one day and leave her stranded.

On this generation Avalon, the immobilizer ECU is the 89780 series module, and the procedure reads the system, calculates the encryption seed, and writes the new 4C chip into memory. Once it took, I tested cold starts three times, cycled the key, watched the security light on the instrument cluster. Solid.
She turned the new key a few times just to feel it. No tape, no cracking plastic, no holding her breath. The whole thing happened in her driveway during lunch. The dealer would have needed the car dropped off, probably overnight, and the bill would have been a good chunk more.
