2000 Toyota Avalon Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman near the High Street Arts Center in Moorpark had a 2000 Avalon with one working key left. The plastic bow on it was cracked right through and the blade was worn thin enough that she had to wiggle it to turn the ignition. She had been doing that for months.
She called the dealer first. They told her to bring the car in, leave it, and they would cut and program a new transponder key. Could take a day or two depending on parts. She did not have a second car.
I met her in the parking area with my programmer and a TOY43 blank with a 4C glass chip already inside. Her Avalon uses the early Toyota transponder immobilizer, the one controlled by the transponder ECU behind the dash, part number 89780-07010 on most XX20 Avalons. The system reads the fixed 4C code through the coil antenna around the ignition lock cylinder.
I connected through the OBD-II port, pulled the seed data from the immobilizer ECU, and wrote the new 4C chip to match. Cut the blade on my mobile machine using her original as a reference since the lock was still in good shape.
She turned the new key once. Started clean. Then she turned the old one. Also still worked. Two keys now instead of one cracked one she had been nursing along.
Whole thing took about 20 minutes in the lot. She kept the old key as a backup, cracked bow and all.
