Got a call from a guy in Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara whose 2008 Tundra would crank but refuse to fire. The security light on the dash was blinking steady, which on these second-gen Tundras means the immobilizer is not seeing a valid transponder signal. He had the original key, but the plastic bow was cracked right through the middle where the 4D-67 chip sits. Chip was physically damaged.

I pulled up, decoded the door lock to get the cut data, and cut a fresh TOY44 blade on my machine right in the van. Then I used my VVDI2 to generate a new 4D-67 chip matched to his immobilizer. On these 2008 Tundras, the ECU communicates with the transponder through the key cylinder coil antenna (part number 89785-08020 corresponds to the remote head key, and the coil is 84306-48030 on these trucks). Once the new chip was registered, the security light went solid and the engine caught on the first turn.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes. He watched from his front steps. No tow, no dealer wait, no leaving the truck somewhere overnight. Just a guy with a bag and a van parked at the curb.
