I got the call from a woman parked at the Ojai Valley Community Hospital lot, over on the East End side of town. Her kid had just been discharged, it was past 8pm, and her 2025 Tundra wasn't responding to anything. She'd pressed the fob, nothing. That's a harder failure to catch than a fully dead battery because it looks like a programming or antenna problem from the outside.
I cleaned the contact, seated a fresh CR2450, and the fob lit right up. Tested all four buttons, walked both door handles for touch unlock, confirmed the start button was reading the key correctly. Everything worked.
She didn't need a new fob. She didn't need to wait until morning and deal with the dealer's service lane. Forty-five minutes from her call to the Tundra running, and she got her kid home that night. That's the job. The rest is just noise.
