Out on Telephone Road in Ventura, right behind one of the commercial lots near the auto parts stores, a guy flagged me down from the phone. His 2011 Tundra had been sitting since that morning. He had one key, used it for years, and it finally cracked apart at the plastic seam where the bow meets the blade. The transponder chip was still wedged in there, but the key was in two pieces held together by habit and electrical tape.
He had called the dealer first. Earliest appointment was Thursday, four days out. They told him to have it towed in. He asked about cost, and whatever number they gave him made him keep looking.
I got there in about 35 minutes. Pulled the broken key out, confirmed the blade was a TOY43 cut, and checked the immobilizer with my IM608 Pro on the OBD-II port. The system read back his existing key registration on the 4D-67 protocol, no fault codes stored. Good sign.
I cut a new TOY43 blade to match, seated a fresh 4D-67 chip in the new key head, and programmed it through the diagnostic port. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes once I had hands on the truck. He turned it over, the security light went solid then off, and the 5.7 fired right up.
He sat there for a second, like he was waiting for something to go wrong. Then he just nodded, put it in gear, and pulled out. No tow truck, no four-day wait.
