2017 Toyota Tundra Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Friday night near Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, a couple came out from an event to a 2017 Tundra that would not respond to either fob. Both remotes dead at the same time. They were ready to leave the truck overnight and sort it out Monday.
They searched "Toyota locksmith" and got me. I was about 15 minutes out.
When I pulled up, the first thing I checked was the batteries. Both GQ4-52T fobs had CR2016 cells that were basically flat. One of them had a contact tab that was barely touching the battery face. That is the thing with these Tundra remote head keys: the shell is sturdy, but the internal clip gets lazy over time, especially if someone pries instead of slides when swapping batteries.
Fresh CR2016 cells in both fobs, tab tension corrected, and then a resync using my VVDI Key Tool to re-pair the remote frequency. The H-chip transponder side was still recognized by the immobilizer, so no reprogramming needed there. Both fobs locked, unlocked, and started the truck on the first press.
The whole job took maybe 20 minutes. They drove home that night instead of leaving a truck in a lot all weekend and waiting on a dealer appointment. I keep GQ4-52T blanks, CR2016 cells, and TOY43 blades stocked in the van, so a 10pm call on a Friday gets the same result as a Tuesday morning.
