2019 Toyota Tundra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2019 Toyota Tundra Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near the River Park shopping area in Ventura, over by Wagon Wheel. He had his 2019 Tundra, a full load in the bed, and a fob that had stopped talking to the truck. Not dead, not locked out, just the truck sitting there ignoring the key in his hand.

He had already swapped the battery twice. Bought two different packs from the same store, same aisle. Still nothing.

When I pulled up, he handed me the fob and I popped it open right there on the tailgate. The CR2032 was seated, looked fine. But the positive contact tab was torqued slightly outward, probably from the first battery swap when he used a flathead on the wrong edge of the case. The tab was touching the battery at maybe a third of the surface area it should have been. Intermittent signal, the truck was rejecting it.

I straightened the tab, cleaned both contacts, reseated the battery correctly. The fob came back immediately. Locked, unlocked, the start button recognized it inside the cab. No programming needed because the fob was never actually dead, just mechanically out of spec.

He had already looked up dealer pricing and was expecting a full replacement key and a wait of several days. We were done in about fifteen minutes. He pulled out of River Park back onto the 101 with the same fob he came in with.
