I was coming down Upper State Street in Santa Barbara when the call came in. Guy up near the trailhead access road off the upper end of State had been digging through his truck bed for about twenty minutes looking for his only Tundra key. Gone. He had gear to unload and nowhere to be towed to.

The 2009 Tundra takes a chipped transponder key -- the blade does the mechanical work, the chip talks to the immobilizer. Without both pieces working together, the engine starts and stalls.
