Over at Ventura Promenade, I got a call around 8pm from a woman in a hospital parking lot. Her kid had just been discharged and she was ready to go home. She pressed her Tundra's key fob and got nothing. Held it against the start button for the backup read, still nothing. Tired kid in her arms, dark parking lot, dealer closed for the night.

First thing I did was get the door open, then I connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port. The system pulled up her immobilizer module and confirmed the H-chip transponder setup tied to the GQ4-52T remote head key. I cracked open the old fob and found the problem right away. The CR2016 had leaked just enough to corrode the negative battery contact, and the corrosion had crept far enough that even the passive transponder coil was not getting a clean read from the ring antenna around the ignition cylinder.

New key, cut to her door, programmed through the 89990-series smart control ECU via the diagnostic port. I tested the remote lock, unlock, panic button, then started the engine twice to make sure the immobilizer handshake was solid.

From her phone call to engine running was about 45 minutes. She buckled her kid in and drove home. That was it. No morning appointment, no waiting room, no second trip. Just a working key and a clear path home.
