Out in East Ventura, I got a call from a guy who had been fighting his 2002 Avalanche ignition for about six weeks. Not locked out, just struggling.

The dealer quote was for a job that did not need to happen. A wafer service is not the same as a cylinder replacement, and on a truck this age with a mechanical key, it is usually the right call to try the smaller fix first.
