Out near the East End of Ojai, a guy had been swimming at a spot off the creek and came back to an empty ignition and empty pockets.
He'd had one key since he bought the Avalanche used, and that was the one now somewhere in the water or the grass. The truck was locked, sitting in the afternoon heat, and he had nowhere to be except stuck. He called me after the tow company quoted him more than the job was worth just to drag it somewhere.

When I got there, I used a Lishi pick tool to work the door lock and read the wafer positions at the same time. That decoded the blade cut without needing a key to copy or a code on file. Once I had the cut, I made the key on the spot.
Then came the OBD connection. The all-keys-lost procedure on this generation clears the previously registered transponder and enrolls the new one as the active key. It takes a few minutes and you have to wait out a security timer - there's no skipping it. The new key turned the ignition on the first try.
I cut him a spare from the same blade reading before I packed up. He left with two keys. The whole thing wrapped in under an hour.
The dealer came up exactly once in conversation. He'd called them first and heard a number that assumed a tow and a few days of waiting. He didn't ask me to match it. The on-site part alone was enough.
