Got a call from a guy stuck in a parking garage off of California Street in Ventura, over on the Westside. He had meetings stacked all afternoon and his 2006 Avalanche's ignition wouldn't rotate past accessory. Classic worn wafer situation on the B111 sidebar lock.
He'd already tried the usual stuff. Jiggling. Two hands on the wheel. Wiggling and praying. Nothing.
I drove over during his break. Popped the Lishi B111 into the door cylinder to decode the cuts, confirmed the mechanical bitting, and checked the ignition. Two wafers were basically flat, letting the key wobble just enough to lose sidebar alignment. That's why it would sort of turn sometimes but then freeze halfway.
Cut him a fresh B111 key on the code, then ran the 10-minute Passlock relearn so the BCM would accept it. Three cycles, ignition on, wait for the security light to stop flashing, turn off, repeat. Thirty minutes of sitting there watching a dashboard light blink. Not glamorous work.
Cut a spare too so he'd have one in the glovebox. He walked back to his truck after his next meeting with two working keys. Truck never left the parking spot. His total time away from work was about five minutes to hand off the key and walk back inside.
The dealer would have meant a tow out of a downtown garage, a scheduled appointment days out, and a waiting room. He skipped all of that.
