Got a call from Ventura Harbor on a Tuesday morning. Guy was parked in the marina lot, boat was loaded, and his 2006 Avalanche fob had stopped responding overnight. The key still turned, truck started fine, but the remote was completely dead. He had about 20 minutes before his window on the water closed.
I was already in the area. Pulled in, he handed me the fob, and I could see it had been pried open before, probably for a battery swap at some point. The battery was a CR2032 but it was sitting slightly off-center, and the positive contact clip was bent just enough to lose consistent contact. Not corroded, not broken, just flexed.
I reset the clip, seated a fresh CR2032 flat and square, and snapped the housing back together without forcing it. Walked the lot testing lock, unlock, and the third button from a normal distance. Everything was live.
He was on the dock in under ten minutes. He mentioned on the way out that the dealer had quoted him a new fob and programming. He didn't need either. Sometimes the fix is smaller than the problem feels.
