2015 Chevrolet Sonic Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from someone parked near St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo. She worked at one of the medical offices and her only flip key for her 2015 Sonic had snapped at the pivot pin. The blade was stuck in the ignition and the fob shell was in two pieces in her hand.
She had already called the Chevy dealer. Their answer was: tow it in, order the key, come back in three to five business days, and pay for all of it in separate line items. She couldn't be without the car that long.
I pulled the broken blade stub out of the ignition cylinder with a hook pick. No damage to the HU100 wafers. Then I decoded the cuts right off the old blade, set up a fresh OHT01060512 flip key blank, and cut it on my Condor XC-Mini Plus. The Sonic's BCM needed the new Hitag2 ID46 transponder registered through the OBD-II port, so I ran the procedure on my Autel IM608 Pro. Add key, security handshake, transponder learned, remote buttons synced. Whole thing maybe 25 minutes.
She sat on a bench eating lunch the entire time. Came back, tested all five buttons, flipped the key open and shut a few times like she was making sure the pivot was solid, and drove off to her next appointment.
