1998 Ford Crown Victoria Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near Bubbling Springs Park in Port Hueneme texted me a GPS pin with a photo of his 1998 Crown Victoria sitting in a gravel lot off the road. His only key had snapped at the head, right where the plastic meets the blade. The transponder chip was still inside the broken piece, but the blade was stuck in the ignition turned to ACC.
I got there and pulled the broken blade out of the cylinder with an extractor. The chip in the old key head was a 4C glass transponder, still intact, but there was no saving that housing. It was cracked through.
I decoded his lock wafers, cut a fresh H72 blade on my mobile machine, and paired a new 4C transponder to his PATS module using diagnostic equipment in the van. His Crown Vic only had one key registered, so self-learn was off the table. Had to go through the module on pin 16 of the OBD-II port to write the new key in.
The whole thing took maybe 35 minutes from the time I parked behind him. He said he had already called the Ford dealer in Oxnard and they told him two weeks for an appointment, plus a tow since the car would not start. He just wanted to drive home. He drove home.
