2000 Ford Crown Victoria Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a woman stuck in the Peninsula Park area of Oxnard with a 2000 Crown Victoria that cranked strong but killed itself every time. She had been sitting in a parking lot for about an hour already.

She told me she had a spare key made at a hardware store the week before because the original was getting worn down. The original still worked, but she left it at home and took the copy. Classic situation.

I got there and the theft light on the dash was flashing fast, which is the PATS module saying it does not recognize the transponder. Her hardware copy had no chip at all. Just a blank metal blade. I pulled my IM608 II, connected through the OBD-II port under the dash, and read the PATS status on the PCM. Her original key was still registered. No codes stored besides the current authentication failure.

I cut a new H72-PT blank to match her ignition and programmed the 4D60 chip to the PATS module. The ten-minute security timer ran its cycle. After that, the new key fired the car right up and the theft light went out.

She still had her original at home, so now she had two working transponder keys. I told her to keep the hardware-store copy in her glovebox for the door locks only, since it would never start the engine anyway. She thought the car had a bigger electrical problem. It did not.
