Got a call from a guy near the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center in Oxnard. His 2004 Crown Victoria was sitting in the parking area and he had zero working keys. Lost one somewhere on a trail weeks back, then the remaining key snapped clean at the bow, right where the plastic meets the blade. He still had the broken pieces in his pocket.

The boring part is the verification loop. Turn to ON, wait for the theft light to go solid, then off. Cycle it. The PCM has a timed acceptance window built into the protocol. Once the theft light dropped off and stayed off, the engine fired right up.
He just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel. Whole thing took about 35 minutes. His car never left that parking spot.
