Got a call from a mechanic shop over in the Midtown neighborhood in Ventura. A customer's 2009 Crown Victoria was sitting in their bay with zero working keys. Another locksmith had tried programming a replacement transponder key, but the car battery sagged mid-procedure and the PCM threw a PATS fault. The theft light on the dash started blinking rapid-fire and stayed there. The other tech packed up and told them to tow it to a Ford dealer.
The mechanic knew that meant days without the car and a bill that would sting. He found my number and called.
I showed up with my IM608 and hooked my jump pack to the battery terminals before touching anything else. Stable 12.6 volts. Then I cleared the stored PATS DTCs, including B1601 and B1213, which are the ones you see when the transceiver loses communication during a security handshake. Once the faults were gone, I ran a clean all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD-II port.
Cut the H92 blank to code, seated the 4D-63 80-bit chip, and the PCM accepted it on the first pass. Theft light went from rapid blink to the normal prove-out and turned off. Engine fired right up.
I showed the shop guys why battery voltage matters during PATS programming. If it dips below about 11.5 volts, the module can lock itself into a fault state that looks way worse than it is.
Whole thing took about an hour and a half. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost, and the car never left the lot.
