A College Estates customer called me about her 1999 Lexus LS. She described it as "the key just looks sad," which is actually a pretty accurate diagnosis before I even showed up.
When I got there, the fob shell had a crack running down the side, the rubber on two of the three buttons had worn completely smooth, and the battery cover was held on with a small piece of electrical tape she'd put there "months ago." Then I had her start the car a few times to make sure the ignition side was still happy.
The whole thing took maybe twenty-five minutes in her driveway. She kept the same working electronics, got a key that doesn't look like it's been through a decade of hard use, and paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted for a full replacement she didn't need.
