There is a small lot off Coast Village Road in Montecito where people park while they run errands along the strip. That is where I met this particular 2003 Lexus LS, and the owner had been nursing a failing remote head key for longer than she wanted to admit.

I told her straight: the key is doing its job, have a shop look at the ignition cylinder for wear, because these are old enough now that the mechanical side gets overlooked while everyone chases the electronics.
