2003 Lexus LS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman at the Pilates studio near Upper Village in Montecito had been fighting her 2003 Lexus LS ignition for about a month. Some mornings the key turned clean. Some mornings she sat in the lot for five minutes wiggling it, both hands on the wheel, trying different angles.
The dealer told her the whole ignition assembly needed replacing. She was about to book it when a friend told her to call me first.
I drove out and checked the TOY48 cylinder. The issue was three worn wafers, not a dead lock. The brass had rounded off just enough that the key couldn't set them cleanly every time. So I decoded the lock, swapped the bad wafers, and cut a fresh TOY48 blade on a new HYQ12BBK shell. Programmed the transponder and synced the remote through OBD. Took maybe 40 minutes.
I showed her the old wafers side by side with the new ones so she could see the wear pattern. She held one up and said "that's it?" Like she expected something more dramatic after a month of fighting the ignition every morning.
Her ignition turns smooth now. She kept both keys this time. The dealer route would have cost a good chunk more and included parts she never actually needed.
