2004 Lexus LS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy on Coast Village Road in Montecito called me about his 2004 Lexus LS. He had one working smart key and wanted a backup before that single fob decided to quit on him. The Lexus dealer had already quoted him, and the number was enough to make him start looking elsewhere.
He lived in one of those gated buildings where visitor parking is tight, so I pulled in next to his LS430 in his own spot. The car was immaculate. Dark blue, cream interior, the kind of owner who still hand-washes it.
I used a TOY43 Lishi on the driver door lock, reading each wafer position to decode the cuts, then machined an emergency insert blade on site. No original blade needed. The smart key fob itself is the HYQ12BZE, three buttons, proximity entry and push-to-start. I connected through the OBD port, ran the registration procedure for the new fob, and confirmed the ID68 transponder was talking to the immobilizer. Then the real test: walk-up proximity unlock on all four doors, push-button start, walk-away lock, and trunk release from the button on the fob and from the trunk handle sensor.
About 40 minutes, start to finish. He watched most of it from his patio with a coffee.
He kept the original fob as his daily and tucked the new one in a drawer. Saved a good chunk over the dealer route and never left his building.
