Got a call from a collision center near Girsh Park in Goleta. They had a 2017 Lexus LS 460 that was done with body repairs and ready for pickup, except it would not start. Another locksmith had already been out, attempted a smart key program, hit a fault, and left.
When I got there the dash just read "Key not verified." The smart key ECU was in a locked fault state from the failed registration attempt. The system was rejecting everything. The body shop guys were standing around the car like it had died on the operating table.
I pulled the smart key computer, which on these is behind the lower dash on the driver side. Brought my ACDP bench tool, read the EEPROM off the board (271451-7510 on this one), cleared the locked state, and rebuilt the key data from scratch. The HYQ14ACX is a 4-button fob, H-chip, DST-AES. After the module went back in, I ran the 16-minute initialization timer and the new key registered clean on the first pass.
Then I walked every function. Remote lock, unlock, trunk release, panic, push-button start, and the door handle proximity sensors on all four doors. One of the body shop techs watched the whole thing and asked me to write down what went wrong so they would not get stuck like that again.
The whole job took about 90 minutes. A flatbed to the Lexus dealer and a multi-day wait would have cost the customer a lot more in every direction.
