She was parked in Heritage Valley, Fillmore, in the lot near the shops, and her 2007 Lexus LS was just sitting there not responding to anything. The door handle touch sensor was dead. The fob buttons did nothing past about two feet. She'd already replaced the CR1632 once -- at the dealer, actually, who charged her for the battery swap and told her the fob probably needed to be replaced.

The CR1632 the dealer had installed was the right battery but it was sitting slightly off-axis -- the positive face wasn't making clean contact with the terminal. The terminal itself had a faint bit of corrosion on it. I cleaned the contacts, reseated the battery correctly, and closed it back up.
Then I walked every function. Door handle touch unlock on both front doors. All four buttons. Fob range from across the parking lot. Everything responded.
She did not need a new fob. She did not need a dealer appointment. She needed someone to actually look at what was going on inside the housing instead of just quoting a replacement. I was done before her coffee got cold, and she paid a fraction of what the dealer had quoted for a new key.
