2019 Lexus LS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will a replacement key last on a 2019 LS?

The programming does not wear out. A correctly registered fob should work for the life of the vehicle. What actually degrades over time is the battery and the rubber button pads. The CR2032 in the 2019 LS fob is a standard cell and easy to swap when range starts dropping or response gets sluggish. We put a fresh one in with every key we make.

Q: What if the new key stops working after a few weeks?

Call us. That's what the warranty is for. That said, if a correctly programmed key on a 2019 LS suddenly stops responding, the first thing to check is the battery seating. The CR2032 contact can shift and kill the signal even when the battery itself is good. Reseat it before assuming anything else is wrong. If that's not it, the issue is usually on the vehicle side.

Q: Can I add a second smart key to my 2019 LS myself, or is there a self-programming sequence I can run?

No self-programming sequence exists for the 2019 LS. This is not a vehicle where you can cycle the ignition or hold buttons in a certain order to register a new fob. The smart key system on this generation requires diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle to add or overwrite keys. That's true whether you're adding a spare or replacing a lost key entirely.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2019 LS. Is all-keys-lost even possible without going to the dealer?

Yes, and it's one of the more common calls I get on this model. All-keys-lost on the 2019 LS means the existing key memory gets cleared and new fobs are registered from scratch through the diagnostic port. It takes longer than a simple add-a-key job because the reset process has a timed sequence built into it, but it's fully doable on-site without a tow. The dealer is not the only place that can handle this.

2019 Lexus LS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There's a stretch near Ellwood in Goleta where the lots fill up fast on weekday afternoons. That's where I got the call.

A woman had her 2019 LS and needed a second smart key made. Her husband had the only working fob, they were down to one between them, and the dealer told her earliest availability was Thursday. This was Monday. She had places to be every single day that week and Thursday might as well have been next month.

She was calm about it, which I appreciated. No drama, just a problem she needed solved before the afternoon got away from her.

I pulled up, connected the diagnostic equipment, confirmed the vehicle security system recognized the existing key correctly, then added the new fob and registered it to the car. The whole thing took about 30 minutes in the lot. I tested every button, walked both door handles, confirmed the start system saw the new key, and handed it over before she had to leave for her next stop.

She mentioned the dealer quote after the fact, almost as an aside. I told her what I charged. She did the math herself.

Lexus LS Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Lexus vehicles?▼

Fresh blanks that meet OEM specifications for the fob and the transponder system inside it. On the 2019 LS specifically, the vehicle security system is particular about what it will accept during registration, so the quality of the blank matters. Used fobs from salvage yards or private sellers are a known dead end on this generation. They arrive locked to the previous vehicle and there is no way to transfer them.
