2004 Ford Escape Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in the College neighborhood in Ventura, I got a call from a guy who'd already had a rough afternoon before he even picked up the phone.

He'd searched for a locksmith, clicked one of those cheap ad listings, and someone showed up and quoted him one price, then tripled it at the car. The key they cut started the engine for about one second and then the car died. Every time. The tech blamed the Escape's electronics, pocketed the money anyway, and left.

When the guy called me, the first thing he asked was whether I was actually licensed. I gave him my BSIS number right there on the call and told him to look it up on the state website while we were still talking. He did. Then he let me come out.

I pulled up to his spot in the College area, confirmed the problem in about two minutes. The key had been cut correctly, but it had never been programmed. The transponder was blank. The immobilizer was doing exactly what it's supposed to do: crank, no-start, shutdown. It wasn't a mystery.

I ran the programming procedure through the OBD port, registered the new key, and verified a clean start. Then I cut him a second key while I was there and enrolled that one too, because losing your only programmed key on a 2004 Escape means starting from scratch on the all-keys-lost procedure, and nobody wants that call.

He paid what I quoted. The scam shop had charged more and left the job unfinished.
