Got called to Emma Wood State Beach for a 2022 Escape that wouldn't recognize the key anymore. Owner said it started with weak range on the remote, then progressed to "Key Not Detected" warnings.

I plugged in and pulled codes: B109D:13, which points to the key's internal board starting to fail. The M3N-A2C931426 uses a TMS37126 chip that can develop cold solder joints over time. Quick test with my backup fob confirmed the car's receiver was fine.
Cut and programmed a new 164-R8288 through the OBD port. PATS 6 has that mandatory 10-minute security timer, so we waited it out while I showed her the backup key slot in the center console armrest. Lot of Escape owners don't know it's there.
She mentioned the dealer wanted her to leave the car for two days. Parts department had keys but service was booked solid. We handled everything in her beach parking spot in under an hour, for a fraction of what they quoted.
