2012 Ford Escape Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy visiting a friend out in the Saticoy area of Ventura flagged me down about his 2012 Escape. Not a lockout, not a dead key. He wanted a spare and had one specific question: would an aftermarket key work as well as the dealer version day to day.
Fair question. Deserves a straight answer.
The OEM key comes from Strattec, Ford's supplier. Part number 164-R8070, Ford logo stamped on the head, and a price tag that reflects the branding more than the engineering. The aftermarket blank I carry uses the same H75 blade profile, same 4D63-80bit transponder chip, same OUCD6000022 circuit board layout, same three-button remote. The difference in daily use is zero if the blank is good quality.
I cut the blade on my Condor machine, matched to his existing key. Programmed the 80-bit chip through the OBD-II port using PATS login. Tested the transponder start, cycled all three remote buttons, checked the lock and unlock range from across the street.
He held both keys side by side. Same weight, same button feel, same snap-together housing. One had a Ford logo. One didn't.
He pocketed the new one as his daily and dropped the OEM in a drawer at home. A spare he actually trusts, done in his friend's driveway, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
