2011 Ford Escape Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked on Telephone Road in Saticoy when the call came in. Guy had a 2011 Ford Escape, said his remote head key stopped unlocking the doors but the car still started fine. He had already swapped the battery twice with batteries from the gas station next door, and nothing changed.
When I got there, the key looked like it had been on a ring with about fifteen other keys for a decade. The head of the housing was cracked along the back seam, not all the way through, but enough that the battery compartment was flexing every time he pressed a button. The CR2032 inside was actually a decent battery. The problem was that crack was letting the housing torque just enough to break contact for a split second on every press. Remote signals need clean, consistent power to transmit. It was not getting that.
I had a replacement housing in the van. Transferred everything over, seated a fresh battery the right way, and tested every button. All three came back live. Doors, panic, the works. Verified the key still started the car clean with no hesitation from the immobilizer.
He mentioned he had gone to the dealer first. They told him he needed a whole new programmed key, quoted him a number that made him pause, and said to come back with an appointment. That is three days later and a trip across town. I was at his car in Saticoy the same afternoon, and he paid a fraction of what they wanted.
