2007 Toyota 4runner Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy down on Linden Avenue in Carpinteria called me about his 2007 4Runner. Said the key barely turned in the ignition anymore and the remote had been dead for months. He had been locking the doors manually with the blade, walking around to check each one like a ritual before leaving it parked.

I got there and looked at the key first. Classic Toyota problem. The 89785-08020 shell had cracked right at the single plastic peg that holds the two halves together. The blade was worn thin on one side, which explained the hard turning. The 4D-67 chip inside was still good, though. You could see it sitting in the housing, no cracks, no corrosion on the contacts.

I cut a fresh TOY43 blade on my Condor, matched to the door lock since the ignition had some wear that could throw off a read. Transferred the 4D-67 chip into a new shell, set the battery, and ran the onboard remote relearn. Ignition on, off, on, off, lock button, unlock button. Doors cycled on the first try.

He stood there clicking lock and unlock from about thirty feet back, testing range like he was making sure it was real. Then he just said, "I forgot it could do that."

Whole thing took maybe twenty minutes at the curb. A dealer in Santa Barbara would have had him drop the car off, wait a day or two, and pay a lot more for the same result.
