2022 Toyota 4runner
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2022 Toyota 4runner Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was at one of the restaurants near Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta when her bag got lifted off the chair beside her. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. She borrowed the server's phone, called the police, then her husband, then me.

Her 2022 Toyota 4Runner was sitting in the parking lot with zero keys. When her husband called the dealer, they quoted him several business days, said the car had to be towed in, and recommended a full rekey on top of the new key cost. The number they gave him was not small.

I got there that evening. The first thing I told both of them: the stolen fob is not a threat the moment I wipe the key memory. It can still physically exist, but the vehicle will not recognize it. That is the part people need to hear right away in a theft situation. It takes the panic down a level.

All-keys-lost on a current 4Runner is not the same job as adding a spare. Adding a spare means the car already has a trusted key and I am just registering one more. All-keys-lost means I clear everything stored in the immobilizer and start fresh. On a 2022 Toyota, that process involves connecting to Toyota's security servers for authentication, so the tool and the data subscription both have to be current. Mine were. I cleared the old key data, registered two new fobs, cut the emergency insert blades for both, and tested every function on both keys before I packed up.

She drove home that night. Two working keys, no tow, no waiting until the following week. The dealer comparison was not even the point for her. She just needed to get home.
