Got called out to Goleta Valley Community Center for a 2024 4Runner that wouldn't recognize either smart key. The owner tried new batteries in both fobs, nothing changed.

The fix was a full smart key re-registration through the OBD port using Techstream. Clear the stored IDs, register both HYQ14FLA fobs fresh, verify the emergency start function. Twenty minutes total, including the module's built-in security delay.
She asked what the dealer would charge. I just said she saved a good chunk by not needing a tow and their diagnostic fees. The 4Runner recognized both keys again, door handles worked, push start lit up blue. Sometimes the fix is just teaching the computer what it already knew.
