2016 Toyota 4runner Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy pulled over on the 33 near the Meiners Oaks neighborhood in Ojai. His 2016 Toyota 4Runner, half the key blade stuck in the ignition, half in his hand. Said he'd already called another locksmith who quoted him for a full ignition cylinder replacement, drilling included.
I told him not to let anyone drill that lock.
When I got there, the broken fragment was jammed about halfway into the TOY43 keyway. Still sitting against the wafers but not turned. Good. I used the TOY43AT Lishi to work around the broken piece and extract it without pushing any wafer out of position. Came out clean, no scoring on the wafer faces.
Then I decoded the lock right there from the wafer readings. Eight wafers, got all the depths, cut a fresh blade on my mobile unit. The remote portion of his HYQ12BBY fob was fine since the buttons are in the head and the break was on the blade. So I just needed a new key body with the correct H-chip transponder, programmed through OBD using the Autel.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. His ignition turns with the new key exactly the way it did with the original. No drill marks, no replacement cylinder, no second trip to a dealer. The lock looks untouched because it is.
